Hand In Hand Telethon Raises More Than $44 Million For Harvey Relief

The Hand In Hand telethon that aired on all the major broadcast networks on Tuesday live from Los Angeles, New York City and Nashville has raised more than $44 million in less than 24 hours.

A long list of celebrities participated in the event in a variety of capacities to help raise money for the relief effort in the wake of the devastation caused by Hurricane Harvey in Texas.

Stevie wonder started off the show with a political message before performing a rendition of Bill Withers’ “Lean On Me.” Leonardo DiCaprio, Jamie Foxx, Oprah and Cher made appearances, describing the widespread devastation the storm caused. The “Late Show” host Stephen Cobert and musical artists Drake and Beyoncé also made appearances during the telethon, while numerous more celebrities fielded calls and took contributions from donors.

The Hand In Hand telethon raised more than $14 million in the first hour of the event Tuesday night, according to ABC News. By the following afternoon that number climbed to north of $44 million in contributions.
