Gayle King, co-host of “CBS This Morning,” weighed in on children being separated from their parents at the border.
The battle over the Trump administration’s “zero tolerance” policy on immigration is intensifying, with lawmakers in both parties condemning it as cruel and inhumane.@gayleking is in McAllen, Texas, leading our team along the southern border. https://t.co/M0Xo4E8wQb pic.twitter.com/Zv18r8r6gQ

King said, “After talking to the people, watching the people, listening to the people, the Statue of Liberty, I think, is weeping right now.”
The CBS host ventured to a detainment facility in McAllen, Texas, where she interviewed Manuel Padilla the chief of the Rio Grande Valley sector of Customs and Border Patrol.
How is it okay for the children to be taken away their parent without information?
PADILLA: “That’s misinformation”@GAYLEKING: “I had parent after parent tell me that they weren’t told where their child is going…you’re saying they’re not telling the truth to me?” pic.twitter.com/SiYtzfV3wo— CBS This Morning (@CBSThisMorning) June 18, 2018
King asked, “Help us understand why families are being told that your children are going to be taken and given a bath, and then they don’t see their children. How is that OK?”
Padilla responded, “Very respectfully, Mrs. Gale, that’s misinformation that is out there. … Every family member gets a sheet with information to keep track of their child.”
King pleaded with the chief, saying, “I had parent after parent tell me they weren’t told where their child was going, that their child was just being taken away, that they had no way to communicate with their children. That’s not misinformation, that’s someone I heard with my own ears.”
Again, Padilla responded quite bluntly, “That is misinformation, ma’am.”
