The attorneys for Brett Kavanaugh’s accuser were scheduled to headline a fundraiser for Democratic Sen. Tammy Baldwin next month but have now backed away from the event.

Debra Katz and Lisa Banks, two lawyers representing Christine Blasey Ford in her sexual assault claim against Kavanaugh, were listed as headliners for the Baldwin fundraiser on an invitation sent out Thursday morning.

According to a report by CNN, attendees were asked to contribute up to $1000 to attend the “cocktails and conversation” event, which was to be held at the attorneys’ firm, Katz, Marshall & Banks, on Oct. 1.

Despite the invitation being sent out Thursday, Katz told CNN it was an “old invite” and that the attorneys are no longer doing the fundraiser.

“The short answer is this: We did a fundraiser for Sen. Baldwin six years ago when we ran for the Senate, we supported her then,” Katz told CNN. “We are not going to be doing a fundraiser now. We’re going to be focused on the issues involving the Kavanaugh confirmation process.”

Katz also claimed the invitation for the fundraiser was prepared before Dr. Ford went public with her accusations against Kavanaugh.

A spokesperson for Sen. Baldwin’s campaign said, “The event was scheduled before Dr. Ford made the allegations. Dr. Ford’s lawyers are no longer involved in the event.”
