California Democratic Rep. Eric Swalwell took a dig at his fellow Democratic colleague Wednesday while offering praise to special counsel John Durham.

Durham is testifying before the House Intelligence Committee about his review of the FBI’s Operation Crossfire Hurricane. During the hearing, Democratic Tennessee Rep. Steve Cohen tried to get Durham to provide an opinion on former President Donald Trump’s criticisms of former Attorney General Bill Barr. Durham refuted the characterizations, saying it was out of the scope of his investigation.

Swalwell then took over the questioning, praising Durham for not wading into criticisms of the former president.

“You were wise earlier to not weigh in on Donald Trump’s character, you are under oath after all,” Swalwell said.

“But did anything in your report prove false, that Russians met with Trump’s family during the campaign at Trump Tower after an offer of dirt on Hillary Clinton? Any proof that that meeting didn’t happen?”

“Anything prove that in the 2016 campaign Donald Trump tried to conceal from the public a real estate deal he was seeking in Moscow?” Swalwell asked.

“There’s nothing in this report about – it’s not something we investigated,” Durham explained.

Durham was appointed by former Attorney General Bill Barr in 2019 to review special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into alleged Russian efforts to influence the 2016 presidential election. Durham’s final report the FBI initiated the investigation in a “noticeable departure from how it approached prior matters involving possible attempted foreign election interference plans aimed at the Clinton campaign.”

Durham also found the FBI “had no information in its holdings indicating that at any time during the campaign anyone in the Trump campaign had been in contact with any Russian intelligence officials.”
