Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy raised $1.5 million for the family of slain hero NYPD cop Jonathan Diller, with half the proceeds coming directly from Portnoy, he announced in a Thursday tweet.
The Barstool founder announced the massive sum in his tweet, claiming the company’s supporters had raised $750k for Diller’s family by purchasing NYPD-themed apparel. Portnoy pledged to match that total, bumping the number up to $1.5 million.
“Thanks to everybody who donated. We raised 750k. With the matching of the funds that brings the total to 1.5 million that will go directly to the family,” his tweet read.

A shooter shot Diller below his bulletproof vest Monday while he and his partner attempted to confront him for parking illegally, according to The Associated Press (AP). (RELATED: Biden To Visit NYC For Record-Shattering Celeb Fundraiser Same Day Trump Honors Fallen Cop)
Diller was rushed to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center where he was pronounced dead, according to The AP.
The fundraiser was the company’s largest to date, outside of the months-long Barstool Fund effort which raised over $40 million for 443 businesses facing closure during Covid lockdowns, Barstool’s New York founder Kevin Clancy said on Twitter.
MASSIVE thank you to Stoolies. Aside from the Covid Fund, I believe 750k is our biggest individual charity fundraiser ever? Certainly one of the highest, if not #1
And an even bigger thank you to @stoolpresidente. 750k is insanely generous. The People’s Pres

Clancy, along with other Barstool personalities, also lamented the legal system that’s allowed a career criminal to continue terrorizing the public.
“I know sometimes talking about police these days can be a nuanced conversation. With Officer Diller, its not one of those convos,” Clancy wrote Monday. “The guy who shot him was arrested 20x w/ 9 felonies & he was still a free man. FIX THAT PROBLEM. That’s not an intricate/touchy/problematic situation.”

“Disgusting. Thoughts and prayers to his family. Maybe the cowards in charge of this city should consider not letting the scum of the earth off with a slap on the wrist 20+ times. But that would make too much sense I guess,” Wayne Jetski, a Barstool producer also tweeted.

The suspect, 34-year-old Guy Rivera, had 21 prior arrests, mostly for drug and assault-related charges, the New York Post reported. The career criminal was reportedly so conditioned for incarceration that he had a shiv stashed in his anus during the shooting, a law enforcement source told the Post.
Prosecutors charged him with murder, gun possession and a second charge of attempted murder, law enforcement sources told the Post.
