Iowa Republican senatorial candidate Joni Ernst hit back at Democratic Sen. Tom Harkin for his “sexist” comments that voters shouldn’t be fooled because she is “really attractive,” saying “I don’t care if she’s as good looking as Taylor Swift.”

Ernst told “Fox and Friends” that she was “very offended” that Harkin would say such a thing.

“I think it’s unfortunate that he and many of their party believe that you can’t be a real woman if you’re conservative and you’re female,” she said. “Again, I am greatly offended about that.”

Ernst said that if she were a Democrat and a Republican had said the same thing, “the press would have been all over this this morning. They would not have let that go.”

She also saw a gender double standard. “I believe if my name had been John Ernst attached to my resume, Sen. Harkin would not have said those things.”
