Appearing on “Good Morning America” by phone to discuss the terrorist attacks in Brussel, Belgium, Democratic presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton called for “an honest reckoning” on the issue of surveillance both in the United States and Europe.

“But this is going to require a real upping of our security cooperation,” Clinton said, “not only in our own country, among all levels of authority, but also with Europeans. And there has to be some honest reckoning about what works and what doesn’t work.”

“I’m once again calling for the law enforcement and intelligence authorities of Europe and the United States, in particular, to go through carefully what we think works and to do more of it,” she said. “And that’s going to require smarter surveillance, quicker action, tracking of communications. The kind of things, you know, people have been somewhat uncertain about in the past.”
