White House press secretary Josh Earnest weighed into Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski’s alleged assault on Michelle Fields arguing it is “completely unacceptable behavior.”

During Wednesday’s press briefing, Earnest said, “I am confident that neither President Obama nor President [George W.] Bush would tolerate someone on their staff being accused of physically assaulting a reporter, lying about it, and then blaming the victim.” (RELATED: Trump Campaign Manager Charged With Battery Over Grabbing Reporter’s Arm)

“That is completely unacceptable behavior… and I know for a fact, that’s not something that President Obama would tolerate,” Earnest said.

Earnest later said, “There is no denying that the kinds of actions and statements we’ve seen from [Trump’s] campaign is completely outside the realm of acceptable behavior that’s been observed by Democratic and Republican presidents over the course of our history.”

“I’m also confident in telling you that nobody is particularly surprised that’s a behavior that Mr. Trump doesn’t just seem to tolerate, he seems to encourage,” Earnest claimed. Adding, “Assaulting a reporter is wrong. Assaulting women is wrong. And the accusations that have been raised about Mr. Lewandowski’s conduct go directly to those core values.”
