On Wednesday, Entertainment Tonight reported that a source told them that the ABC network is “in talks” with the actor’s representatives for the co-host position on the morning show following Michael Strahan’s early departure from “Live with Kelly and Michael.”

Lowe was reportedly looked at back in 2012 as a possible replacement for Regis Philbin, before Strahan got the job.

The actor spoke about his time as a co-host on live with the ET reporter. “I hosted it with Kelly and had the time of my life,” Lowe said. “I love her. I loved being able to talk to an audience every morning like that and just being fun, counter-punching, being silly, and talking about cool stuff.” (RELATED: Kelly Ripa Skips Her Own Show After Michael Strahan Quits)

When the reporter pressed him on the question again about whether he was going to co-host with Ripa, the actor responded, “Who knows, but listen man I don’t want to go up against Anderson Cooper.” Adding, “I don’t know if I’m going to go back as an actual guest host yet. You never know. You never know.”

A representative for the actor did not answer affirmative that he was talking to ABC about the job.

Lowe’s show “The Grinder” was one of many shows last week that got axed leaving him currently available.

Strahan announced last month that he would be leaving the program for full-time work with Good Morning America in the fall.
