The new “Ghostbusters” reboot survived all of the online criticism to scrounge up a solid $46 million on its opening weekend at the box office. Now comes the question of whether or not Sony wants to make a sequel.

According to president of Worldwide Distribution Rory Bruer, there is absolutely going to be a “Ghostbusters 2.”

“The Ghostbusters world is alive and well,” Bruer told The Wrap. “I expect Ghostbusters to become an important brand and franchise. … While nothing has been officially announced yet, there’s no doubt in my mind it will happen.”

Bruer’s optimism isn’t an official studio confirmation, but it does indicate which way Sony is leaning when it comes to the future of the “Ghostbusters” franchise. What’s interesting is that Bruer did not mention director Paul Feig in his comments, so it is unknown if he will be involved in any future installments.

Before the release of the film, Sony created a new production team called Ghost Corps, headed up by original “Ghostbusters” director Ivan Reitman. In addition, rumors cropped up in early 2015 that Sony was planning to create its own shared Ghostbusters cinematic universe. Given all of this and Bruer’s recent comments, fans should expect to see more Ghostbusters-related content in the coming future.
