Christian minister Alveda King, whose “Uncle Martin” was a fairly well known civil rights leader, has offered a provocative and obvious challenge to the Black Lives Matter activists that any journalist inclined to cover them honestly and skeptically should also pose.

“If black lives matter, then why is it that black women are more than five times as likely as a white woman to have an abortion?” she asked rhetorically on famed televangelist Jim Bakker’s show recently.

The comments were flagged Aug. 24 by cns.com.

“I think the womb that brings forth the black life should matter. But they don’t want that out there,” King contended. “That’s the thing. And so because black lives absolutely matter, what about the babies in that womb? What about that mama?”

“When abortion became legal, then it was offered on a disproportionate rate to the black community, and sold as reproductive health care, reproductive freedom — this is your right,” she argued. “But Black Lives Matter in the womb, I would think. I think the womb that brings forth the black life should matter. But they don’t want that out there. That’s the thing. And so because black lives absolutely matter, what about the babies in that womb? What about that mama?”
