Gianforte Wins, Apologizes

Here are two statements that aren’t mutually exclusive: Newly elected Montana Congressman Greg Gianforte was wrong to beat up that reporter, and the Democrats are in trouble if they can’t even defeat a guy who does something like that the day before an election. Both things are true.

During his victory speech last night, Gianforte apologized for attacking reporter Ben Jacobs. He sounds sincere to me:

This doesn’t get Gianforte out of the woods legally, but it’s the right thing to do. I’d be saying that right now whether he won or lost.

If you think that the ends justify the means, and that reporters have it coming for being annoying hacks for the Democratic Party, you have my congratulations.

If you still can’t figure out why Trump won, and you think Paul Ryan’s acceptance of the results of an election somehow indicates he’s “OK” with what Gianforte did, you have my condolences.

Me? I really don’t like anybody these days. You’ve all lost your minds.
