The photo of a Canadian man mowing his lawn while a massive tornado looms in the background has gone viral.

Cecilia Wessels took the picture of her husband, Theunis, as the tornado passed by their Three Hills, Alberta home Friday evening, according to the Times Colonist.

She told the local paper that her nine-year-old daughter woke her up when Theunis refused to come inside as the tornado approached nearby. She said that mowing the grass was on his to do list and that he had just started when the tornado appeared. Theunis contends that the tornado was actually much further away than it appears in the photograph.

“It looks much closer if you look in the photo, but it was really far away. Well, not really far, far away, but it was far away from us,” he told the Times Colonist.

“I literally took the picture to show my mum and dad in South Africa, ‘Look there’s a tornado,’ and now everyone is like, ‘Why is your husband mowing the lawn?'” Cecilia said.

Theunis told the paper that he was keeping watch of his surroundings and saw the twister form as the swirling connected from the sky and the ground to form the funnel. “The tornado moved away to the east,” he explained. “I was keeping an eye on it.”

The picture went viral over social media.

Housewives everywhere can point to the photograph the next time their husbands appear hesitant to fulfill their weekend chores.
