The Prince of Denmark won’t be buried next to his wife, the queen of Denmark, because he is upset that he was never appointed king, a representative for the royal family confirmed Thursday.

Prince Henrik, 83, expressed frustration at never being appointed to a status equal to that of his wife, Queen Margrethe II, 77, since their marriage in 1967.

“For the Prince, the decision not to buried beside the Queen is the natural consequence of not having been treated equally to his spouse — by not having the title and role he has desired,” a spokesperson for the Royal Danish House said.

Henrik also acknowledged that never becoming king is contradictory to Denmark’s supposed commitment to gender equality, in an interview with Le Figaro in 2015. He said that even his son has more power than he does, the Danish edition of The Local reported in 2015.

The queen has accepted Henrik’s decision, according to the BBC.
