Women who once worked with Minnesota Democrat Sen. Al Franken on Saturday Night Live  came out in droves Tuesday to support the senator against recent groping accusations.

Thirty-six female staffers on SNL came out in “solidarity” for Franken, arguing that while his alleged behavior was inappropriate, the senator has always been a good family man.

“What Al did was stupid and foolish, and we think it was appropriate for him to apologize to Ms. Tweeden, and to the public. In our experience, we know Al as a devoted and dedicated family man, a wonderful comedic performer and an honorable public servant,” the women wrote in a statement.

At least two women have come forward to accused Franken of groping them. Reporter Leeann Tweeden accused Franken of forcing her to kiss him and groping her while she was asleep, while another woman claimed Franken touched her backside when they took a picture. Franken apologized for his behavior with Tweeden, but did not recall the picture situation with the second woman.

The women of SNL went on to emphasize that Franken never harassed them while they worked with him on SNL.

“That is why we are moved to quickly and directly affirm that after years of working with him, we would like to acknowledge that not one of us ever experience any inappropriate behavior; and mention our sincere appreciation that he treated each of us with the utmost respect and regard,” the women wrote.
