Charles Barkley started campaigning for Doug Jones in the last few days leading up to the Senate Election in Alabama that wrapped up on Tuesday night, and he seems more than pleased with the results.
The NBA Hall of Famer and Alabama native, who played at Auburn University, joined CNN after Jones won late Tuesday night on what he called “a great night for Alabama.”
Former NBA player Charles Barkley: “Roy Moore was an embarrassment. … I am just so proud of my state. … We’ve got some amazing people here and they rose up today” https://t.co/QCdcuRzPQL https://t.co/fgOUvxo2zm

“This is a great night for Alabama. You know, we’ve been stuck in a time warp for a long time,” Barkley said. “I’m just so proud of my state. I love my state. We’ve got some amazing people here. Yeah, we’ve got a bunch of rednecks and a bunch of ignorant people. But we’ve got some amazing people here. And they rose up today.”
Given the situation, it seems that Barkley’s name calling is directed at Republicans across his home state, or perhaps just those who voted for controversial Republican candidate Roy Moore.
In any case, his comments will likely ruffle some feathers of the fans who have supported him since his Auburn days.
Charles Barkley says his plan now is to “get drunk as I possibly can.”

As for Barkley’s celebration plans, it seems that he was headed straight for the nearest bar, according to a tweet by ABC’s Rich Klein.
Charles Barkley is the best, and also it’s a very good bet if you’re in Alabama and find him at the bar tonight, he will pay for your drink. https://t.co/tMEIt7X0Gx

ESPN’s Rachel Nichols recommended that anyone looking to celebrate go find Barkley, because he’d probably take care of the bill.
