The New York City Police Department announced Thursday it will amp up security for New Years Eve celebrations, making it the strongest in years, due to recent terror attack incidents.

The NYPD will take on “enhanced security measures” for New Year’s Eve celebrations this year, said NYPD Commissioner James P. O’Neill in a press conference, reported The New York Post.

“There will be an increase in the amount of uniformed detail on the streets and “observation teams with the counter-sniper capabilities,” added O’Neill.

“Out of an abundance of caution, however, you will see a stronger police presence out there than we’ve seen, even than what we’ve seen in recent years,” he continued. NYC was hit with two recent terror attacks on the West Side Highway Oct. 31 and a failed subway bombing at Port Authority Dec. 11.

O’Neill also noted that there are currently no threats to Times Square despite taking precaution and that people will feel safe, reported CBS.
