Top Democrat Rips Pelosi For Attacking ‘White Guys’ In Her Own Party

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi sparked a backlash within her own party after she criticized the “white guys” negotiating a DACA deal between Republicans and Democrats.

Pelosi took issue with the fact that five of the men leading the DACA negotiations are white. Two of them, House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer and Senate Minority Whip Dick Durbin, are leaders within Pelosi’s own party. The other three “white guys” are Senate Majority Whip John Cornyn, House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy and White House chief of staff John Kelly.

“The five white guys, I call them. Are they going to open a hamburger stand next or what?” Pelosi said at a press conference on Thursday. “That could’ve been done four months ago.” She criticized the “very idea that this week they’re saying, ‘Oh why don’t we get four white guys and General Kelly to come and do this.'”

Hoyer, the number two Democrat in the House behind Pelosi, took issue with the “white guys” comment, calling it “offensive.”

“That comment is offensive. I am committed to ensuring DREAMers are protected and I will welcome everyone to the table who wants to get this done,” Hoyer told Politico. (RELATED: ‘Crumbs’ — Pelosi Dismisses Workers’ ‘Pathetic’ Tax Reform Bonuses)
