I was very skeptical of the series when I started seeing previews, but my skepticism vanished as soon as I finally watched the show. Michael Shannon as FBI negotiator Gary Noesner and Taylor Kitsch as Branch Davidian leader David Koresh have both been outstanding. I could see them both cleaning up some awards for their performances in the series about one of the darkest times in modern American history.

We ended part five with the FBI beginning to plan an assault on the compound. Now, we all know the tragic end to the standoff at WACO. Scores of people, including women and children, died after their building was set on fire.
The series finale tonight also is on the 25 year anniversary of the day the siege began. I’ve tried talking to older people about what they remember, and the answers vary. Overwhelmingly, however, the people I’ve talked about the siege with think the federal government went way too far in attempting to breach the compound. I wish I could have watched it go down in realtime, but the mini-series will have to suffice.
It’s been an outstanding journey through the first five parts, and I have no doubt the conclusion will also be great.
