A writer for Salon wondered Thursday if First Lady Melania Trump “deserves our sympathy” for being married to President Donald Trump.

Erin Keane pointed to the ongoing scandal involving porn star Stormy Daniels’ lawsuit and allegations of an affair with Trump, and wondered if leftists should feel bad for Melania or if she “deserves whatever she gets.”

“For many, especially those politically opposed to Donald Trump, possible reasons behind the lack of care for Melania are obvious and rooted in her complicity with her husband’s corrupt and destructive administration,” she wrote. “At a time when many people, including racial minorities, LGBTQ folks and immigrants, are fighting for their right to exist, sympathy for those sleeping across the hall from the enemy can be scarce, with good reason.”

“I will admit it’s hard for me to muster genuine sympathy for Melania Trump, because of her public support for her husband,” Keane admitted. “I’d like to make room for the idea that just because I believe she knew what she was getting into, that doesn’t means she automatically deserves whatever she gets.”

To Keane’s credit, she confesses that Melania may not want public sympathy at all, which is probably most in line with reality. Melania’s spokeswoman, Stephanie Grisham, recently slammed the media for reporting the “salacious gossip” from Stormy Daniels. (RELATED: ‘Salacious Gossip’ — Melania Trump’s Spokeswoman Puts The Media On Notice Over Stormy Daniels)
