Spike Lee said President Donald Trump is “on the wrong side of history” when it comes to comments he made after violence broke out at a white nationalist rally in Charlottesville, last year.

“I just think that his [Trump] dog whistle stuff has given these people that ‘Come out,'” the 61-year-old filmmaker told the Hollywood Reporter in a piece published Wednesday while promoting his new movie “BlacKkKlansman.” “They get the signal. That’s what happened in Charlottesville.”

“Agent Orange refused to repudiate the Klan, the alt-right and the Nazis. ‘There’s good people on both sides.’ That’s going to be on his gravestone,” Lee added. “He’s on the wrong side of history.”

Later, he was asked his thoughts about comments made by Kanye West in support of Trump and calling slavery “a choice.”

“I pray for my brother. I pray for my brother. I pray for him,” Lee shared.

The filmmaker also posted a message on his Instagram Wednesday slamming the rapper for the slavery comment.

“Where Is This Brother In The Picture Next To Me I Would Not Be Surprised If OUR Ancestors Are Not Pleased With Your Uneducated Comments. P.S. Your Retraction Does Not Undue The Harm You Cause To Our Beloved ANCESTORS. WAKE UP,” he added.
