Harvey Weinstein’s lawyer, Ben Brafman, said he intends to clear Weinstein’s name and called the rape accusations reprehensible following the entry of a not guilty plea Tuesday to multiple charges of rape, criminal sex act, and sexual abuse and misconduct.

“I think today is the first day of this process. We begin our fight now, we will fight this case in the courtroom. I am pleased with what happened today,” Brafman said.

Brafman said he and the judge decided he would not discuss any evidence of the case.

“I don’t think rushing helps anyone,” Brafman stated. “I think having both sides giving the opportunity to address these issues, I think that’s good for everyone.”

Brafman added that “Mr. Weinstein has denied these crimes. He has maintained that he has never engaged in nonconsensual sex with anyone. He is taking this matter very seriously, he is working on helping us address these issues.”

“Rape is a terrible crime and he has denied these allegations, and as terrible a crime as rape is, it is equally reprehensible to be falsely accused of rape, and since Mr. Weinstein has denied these alegations, that’s where we are,” Brafman. (RELATED: WATCH: Harvey Weinstein Turns Himself In To NY Police, Charged With Rape)
