Tesla CEO Elon Musk is sending engineers from his companies SpaceX and The Boring Company to Thailand to assist in the rescue of 13 people trapped in a cave, the businessman announced in a tweet Friday.
“SpaceX & Boring Co engineers headed to Thailand tomorrow to see if we can be helpful to govt [sic],” he tweeted. “There are probably many complexities that are hard to appreciate without being there in person.”

One rescue worker has died trying to recover the trapped soccer team of 12 boys and their coach, who were located Tuesday after going missing on June 23. The group went exploring in the Tham Luang Nang Non cave network, but were forced up higher and higher when seasonal rains flooded its passages, reported CNN.
Rescuers do not have a plan to extract the group and are afraid they may have to wait until Thailand’s rainy season ends in October to get them out. (RELATED: Missing Thai Soccer Team Finally Found Alive In Cave, But Now Rescuers Must Figure Out How To Free Them)
“We are sending SpaceX/Boring Company people from the U.S. to Thailand today to offer support on the ground,” said a Boring Company spokesperson, according to BBC. “Once we confirm what exactly will be helpful to send or do, we will. We are getting feedback and guidance from the people on the ground in Chiang Rai to determine the best way for us to assist their efforts.”
It is not known if the Thai government has accepted Musk’s offer, reported Fortune.
Musk’s The Boring Company specializes in infrastructure and tunnels. Before he made the announcement that he was sending engineers, Musk tweeted about ways his companies could help.
“Boring Co has advanced ground penetrating radar & is pretty good at digging holes,” he wrote on Twitter Wednesday. “Don’t know if pump rate is limited by electric power or pumps are too smal [sic]. If so, could dropship fully charged Powerpacks and pumps.”

Rescuers have been having trouble pumping water out of the cave and ensuring the 13 people trapped in the cave chamber have enough oxygen. Thai ex-Navy SEALS and divers from the British Cave Rescue Council are working around the clock on recovering the group.
