New Zealand’s Parliament is the first Western governing body to pass paid leave specifically for victims of domestic abuse.
Backers of this bill say it will enable victims to “stop the violence and get help without worrying about losing their jobs,” Green Party member Jan Logie said about the measure that passed Wednesday, according to AFP News. The Philippines passed similar legislation in 2004.
