Fox News host Greg Gutfeld took a moment on Thursday evening’s “The Five” to ridicule New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman for encouraging the media to continue to cover Trump’s every move. Friedman apparently felt doing so would ultimately help Democrats, but Gutfeld just laughed, “remember what happened the last time?”

Friedman’s piece was titled “Keep Up the Blanket Coverage of Trump. It Hurts Him.

The column said, “the whole country needs to see every tweet, every rally, every word and every reaction so that they can ask themselves: ‘Is this who I want my kids to see as our president? Are these the people with whom I want to be aligned?’ It’s too late to move Trump’s core base on these questions, but I would not give up on his passive supporters.”

“What a great idea. Because remember what happened the last time the media covered every tweet, every rally, every word in every reaction of Donald Trump? When every wink, nudge, cough became part of the media snarknado,” Gutfeld stated, oozing sarcasm. “They elected Donald Trump, the bozos. There were 300 Republican candidates but all the yahoos in the press chased the Orange meteor precisely for the things they hate about them now.”

Friedman’s piece went on to bash both GOP members of congress members and Fox News in particular for supposedly not standing up to the president. The overall message of the piece was that if the media continues to cover Trump, his failures could in theory push Republicans not to vote in the future.

“[The establishment media] didn’t seem to mind because they thought Hillary had it in the bag anyway and they had no other way to get people to watch their boring, mindless coverage. So telling the media to focus on Trump’s behavior, you are in effect saying ‘hey, remember how we elected Trump in 2016? Let’s do it again,'” Gutfeld continued.
