Late-night comedian Stephen Colbert ridiculed Andrew Cuomo for saying that America was “never that great” on “The Late Show” Thursday.

“That is the dumbest thing you could say as a politician,” Colbert stated. “That’s like closing your speech with, ‘Apple pie sucks, I’m lukewarm on the troops, and those stripes make the American flag look fat! Thank you, I hate my mother!’”

“America may have been through some rough patches, but we’ve also done great things! In World War II, we beat the Axis powers, and ended Nazism for several decades,” he continued.

Cuomo said during a live stream on his website, “We are not going to make America great again,” on Wednesday.

He continued, “We have not reached greatness. We will reach greatness when every American is fully engaged. We will reach greatness when discrimination and stereotyping against women.” (RELATED: Gov. Andrew Cuomo: America ‘Was Never That Great’)
