Former President Barack Obama labeled the Republican Party as divisive, resentful and paranoid in a speech he gave at the University of Illinois on Friday.

“So, neither party has had a monopoly on wisdom, neither party was exclusively responsible for us going backward instead of forward,” Obama stated. “[I have] got a lot of Republican friends here in Illinois, but over the last few decades, the politics of division, resentment and paranoia has unfortunately found a home in the Republican Party.”

Obama also took the time to praise himself for the economic turn that is currently ongoing.

“I mention all this just so when you hear how great the economy is doing right now, let’s just remember when this recovery started,” Obama continued. (RELATED: Obama Bugged That Trump, Republicans Getting Credit For The ‘Economic Miracle’)

He added, “I’m glad it’s continued but when you hear about this economic miracle that’s been going on, when the job numbers come out, monthly job numbers, suddenly Republicans are saying, ‘It’s a miracle.’ I have to remind them, actually, those job numbers are the same as they were in 2015 and 2016.”
