Tess Holliday is the plus-sized supermodel who is featured on the October cover of Cosmopolitan UK. She’s faced a vicious backlash from social media in regards to the size of her body, as she’s a reported size 20, going by UK sizes. Piers Morgan was among those offering commentary, blasting Holliday and Cosmo for “glorifying obesity” and calling it “dangerous & misguided” in relation to obesity issues.

Piers Morgan stated on Instagram “As Britain battles an ever-worsening obesity crisis, this is the new cover of Cosmo. Apparently we’re supposed to view it as a ‘huge step forward for body positivity.’ What a load of old baloney. This cover is just as dangerous & misguided as celebrating size zero models.”

Tess Holliday responded on Instagram by stating “People who think I’m glorifying obesity are glorifying stupidity. I am pretty glorious though” and posted a video of herself eating a cake decorated to replicate herself on the cover of Cosmo.

Social media exploded over this, with many suggesting that body positivity can inadvertently glorify obesity, which could be just as dangerous as glorifying someone who is extraordinarily skinny.

Tess Holliday continues to receive backlash from users on Instagram. Users on Twitter and Facebook have also made her cover and cake a hot topic of debate.
