Alberta Conservative Opposition Immigration Critic Michell Rempel says the Trudeau government is “misleading” Canadians about how many illegal immigrants have been deported.

Rempel was responding to an interview that Border Security Minister Bill Blair did over the weekend with Global News, in which he claimed most of Canada’s asylum seekers “have left.”

“I will tell you that we did experience a surge of people last year,” Blair told Global News.

“We found a very small percentage of them were actually eligible to stay, and the overwhelming majority of those people have left.”

Blair was not asked to clarify where they had gone. But Rempel thinks the story is extremely suspicious, tweeting that the deception “needs to stop.”

In a video recorded for YouTube, Rempel says that Blair is truly a “minister of nothing” because none of the Federal Government agencies that tackle illegal immigration, “like the RCMP and Canadian Border Security Agency,” report to Blair. Rempel says that leaves Blair “to spend money and communicate that everything is okay.”

Rempel says Blair’s statement that “the overwhelming majority” of illegals “have left” is not just false but “sad.” She pointed to an Aug. 28, 2018, statement from Canada’s public safety ministry that only acknowledged that “398 have been removed.”

The Calgary Member of Parliament encouraged people to watch the interview with Blair in order to see “who your tax dollars are paying for.”
