Washington Capitals forward Tom Wilson has been suspended 20 games for delivering a brutal hit to St. Louis Blues centre Oskar Sundqvist.

Wilson checked Sundqvist in the head over the weekend in what is almost certainly one of the dirtiest hockey hits of all time.

You can watch it below:

Wilson made a trip up to the NHL headquarters in New York City on Wednesday where he received his sentence. (RELATED: THE NHL’S NEWEST MASCOT IS WHAT NIGHTMARES ARE MADE OF)

It’s not clear how long Sundqvist will be out this season. However, Blues head coach Mike Yeo told the media that Sundqvist was “not good” and he would “be surprised if he didn’t miss a decent amount of time.”

Here’s a shot of Sundqvist in the aftermath:

As you can tell from the photo, Sundqvist is indeed “not good.”

Wilson signed a $31 million deal with the Caps in July, meaning he’ll lose $63,008.12 for every game missed.

I can’t imagine that’s a good spot to be in.
