Presidential historian Doris Kearns Goodwin said on “Morning Joe” Tuesday that President Donald Trump will likely resign from office if pressure continues to build against him and his administration.

“What strikes me when you talk about the miserableness of these people — there’s no joy in that White House,” Goodwin said. (RELATED: Joe Scarborough Says Trump Won’t Run In 2020, Tells Candidates To Prep For Nikki Haley)

“You don’t see anybody who’s really feeling the fulfillment of their job. And it’s hard enough to be in a pressured situation like the White House if you don’t have any joy. And the top guy doesn’t have any joy. Do you see President Trump really finding himself in this job? He’s fighting every moment.”

Goodwin said Trump is able to recharge by holding rallies with his supporters but claimed it won’t be enough to sustain him throughout his entire presidency.

“The only joy is when he’s out at the rallies and he gets oxygen at the rallies. But inside the White House he’s trapped,” she continued.

“I think at some point he might resign,” Goodwin added. “If this thing gets so bad and … he can figure out an honorable way that he’s doing something good by leaving. He’ll figure it out. Something in his definition that allows him to go.”
