If you’ve bought something from the concession stand at a professional sporting event in recent years, chances are you ingested something disgusting. Among the possibilities are insects, mice and blood.

According to data obtained by ESPN’s “Outside the Lines,” thousands of high-level health safety violations occurred at 111 NFL, NBA, MLB and NHL venues over the past two years. (RELATED: ESPN Releases The Best Quotes Of The Year In College Football. They’re Awesome)

The report details the sickening violations that occurred in many of these kitchens:

Chicken, shrimp and sushi festering at dangerous temperatures that can breed bacteria; employees wiping their faces with their hands and then handling food for customers; cooks sweating over food; beef blood dripping on a shelf; moldy or expired food; dirty utensils or contaminated equipment; and the presence of live cockroaches and mice.

ESPN’s analysis of the 16,000 food safety inspection reports obtained from local health departments found that 28 percent of the venues incurred high-level violations, with some much worse than others.

So, if you plan on attending a sporting event in the near future, be careful what you eat. Not only are the concessions absurdly overpriced, but now we know they could make you sick, too.
