Jose Olegario Lopez, 44, has been arrested by authorities in Utah for the possession and trafficking of over $850,000 worth of illegal drugs.

Officers with the Utah County Special Enforcement Team and the Utah County Sheriff’s Office attempted to pull over Lopez’s car Jan. 12 because of an alleged traffic violation. When Lopez refused to stop his car, officers surrounded him and were eventually able to pull him over.

Upon search of Lopez’s car, officers and a K9 found several packages of cocaine, amounting to 2.35 pounds, which is valued approximately at $106,000. Several more packages were found which contained 16.7 pounds of methamphetamine, valued at approximately $750,000. The total monetary value of the illegal drugs found in Lopez’s car rung in at around $856,000. (RELATED: Los Angeles Legalizes Street Vending So Illegal Immigrants Can Make Money)

Lopez’s 16-year-old son was in the car at the time of the arrest, though police do not believe that he was involved in his father’s alleged drug trafficking. The boy has been released to his mother, according to a press release.

The Department of Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), confirmed that Lopez is an illegal alien who has eight aggravated re-entry violations. “Lopez was booked into jail on two first-degree felony charges of possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute; a child endangerment charge; for failing to respond to the command of a peace officer; and a class A misdemeanor charge of possession of drug paraphernalia, according to a press release.

A judge ordered Lopez be held without bail and ICE agents have placed a hold on him.”
