Democratic New Jersey Sen. Bob Menendez lost his cool Wednesday after The Daily Caller’s Capitol Hill reporter, Henry Rodgers, asked Menendez how he planned to vote on the Green New Deal.

“Not interested. I have nothing to say to the Daily Caller. You’re trash. I won’t answer questions to the Daily Caller, period! You’re trash! Don’t keep harassing me, or I’ll call Capitol Police!” Menendez said. (RELATED: Menendez Attacks Trump For Classifying Drunk Driving Illegals As ‘Criminal’)

Rodgers joined the Caller’s editorial director Vince Coglianese Thursday on D.C.’s “Mornings on the Mall” radio show to help make sense of Menendez’s meltdown.

“I’m here to hold these lawmakers accountable,” Rodgers said.

Coglianese pointed out that The Daily Caller broke news of prostitution allegations against Menendez that garnered the attention of the FBI. The Justice Department ultimately dropped charges against Menendez related to bribery and corruption after his trial resulted in a hung jury.

Rodgers later alluded to the hypocrisy of those who have criticized President Donald Trump’s attacks on the media yet have remained silent over yesterday’s events.

“Democrats have been extremely harsh on President Trump for his rhetoric toward certain reporters,” Rodgers said. “There were a few members of the press who reached out, but not the reaction you would see [if the roles were reversed.]”

Rodgers added that if a Republican senator had assailed a journalist as Menendez did, it “would be front page news. It would be on every TV show.”
