Rapper 50 Cent has found himself embroiled in a bizarre situation with a New York Police Department officer.

According to The New York Daily News, Emanuel Gonzalez allegedly told fellow cops to shoot the superstar musician on sight when he found out he’d be at an NYPD boxing match last June.

It was just the latest alleged incident involving the two. Gonzalez filed an aggravated harassment complaint months ago because of Instagram posts from 50, which stemmed from the police officer from allegedly “shaking down” the owner of a club the rapper likes. He really can’t be happy, then, with the fact that 50 Cent posted a photo of Gonzalez on Instagram after the news broke with the caption, “This is Emanuel Gonzalez, commanding officer of the 72 [precinct]. He think he got beef with me, so he sending the Homies to put some work in. NYNOTSAFE #thegangstagotabadge.”

However, a rep for Gonzalez is claiming the allegations are complete garbage and that the NYPD officer is the one truly at risk. TMZ reported the following update:

Roy Richter — who serves as the president of the Captains Endowment Association, a union that reps Emanuel Gonzalez — tells TMZ … the allegation that Gonzalez told fellow officers to shoot 50 Cent on sight last year is completely false. Richter tells us Gonzalez never said that, and that he completely denies any suggestion he did. In fact, Richter says it was 50 who put Gonzalez’s safety at risk by publishing a threatening Instagram post.

What an absolutely bizarre situation all the way around. Beefs aren’t unusual in the rap game. In fact, they’re super popular, but beefs between specific cops and rappers is a bit over the top.

Shouldn’t 50 be busy rapping with other stars? Shouldn’t NYPD officers have better things to do than allegedly tell people to shoot rappers on sight?

It seems absurdly dumb all the way around. There was once upon a time when 50 Cent was the baddest man in the rap game.

However, he’s dropped off a bit over the past few years. The only upside here for him is that he’s back in the news, and he’s back in a major way.

At the very least, you have to love the free publicity. However, beefing with the police is almost never bound to end in a good way.

Either way, something tells me that we’re bound to get some more entertainment out of this before it’s over. Rap beef involving the authorities is going to be content gold.
