Johnny Depp filed a $50 million defamation lawsuit Friday against ex-wife Amber Heard in Virginia.

In the lawsuit, Depp claims Heard made false allegations about domestic abuse to advance her career. Heard published an article in the Washington Post in December detailing her experience with domestic abuse, but did not mention any specific names.

Depp also claims Heard became involved in an affair with tech magnate Elon Musk a month into their marriage, according to Fox News.

“Mr. Depp never abused Ms. Heard. Her allegations against him were false when they were made in 2016. They were part of an elaborate hoax to generate positive publicity for Ms. Heard and advance her career,” Depp’s lawyers said in the lawsuit obtained by People Magazine. (RELATED: Leaked Depositions Paint Very Disturbing Picture Of Johnny Depp And Amber Heard’s Marriage)

In a statement to People, Heard’s lawyers responded, “This frivolous action is just the latest of Johnny Depp’s repeated efforts to silence Amber Heard. She will not be silenced.”

Depp claimed he suffered financial losses from Heard’s article, including being removed from his role in the “Pirates Of The Caribbean” films.

Heard first accused Depp of domestic violence in 2016. They had been married for a year. The couple finalized their divorce in 2017.
