A member of the migrant caravan who was dubbed “Bean Lady” for complaining about the free food options on her journey to the United States has been arrested and charged with assault.

According to a report on Fox News, Mirian Zelaya Gomez and her sister were arrested in Texas after allegedly beating a woman who was giving them a place to stay. Gomez was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Gomez went viral in November when she complained to a Spanish language channel that migrants in Mexican camps waiting to enter the United States were only being fed tortillas and refried beans. The woman claimed that the migrants were being treated like “pigs” and said she would “die of hunger” if she did not eat the food she was given. “Look at what they’re giving us. Refried beans, as if they were feeding the pigs. And the truth is, we don’t have any other options. If we don’t eat this, we will die of hunger,” Gomez whined.

Gomez later apologized for her comments and said she was being bullied by the other migrants and was nicknamed “Lady Frijoles” or “Bean Lady.”

“I ask for forgiveness from the bottom of my heart,” she said.

Gomez and her sister are now being held in a detention center in Dallas, Texas on $10,000 bond.
