OWENS: Jussie Smollett Deserves The Nobel Peace Prize

I would like to nominate Jussie Smollett for the Nobel Peace Prize.

Now that his name has been completely cleared, Jussie can take his rightful place among the other Nobel recipients who qualified for the honor purely on the basis of the adversity they have overcome and what they “represent” — President Obama, for example.

Smollett appears well on his way! On Saturday, he has the opportunity to win an NAACP Image Award, and the show’s host is pulling for him, saying, “I’m happy for him that the system worked for him in his favor.”

I couldn’t agree more. What we need most in our role models is bravery and unwavering commitment to a cause, and Jussie clearly has both of those traits to the highest degree.

Paying two Nigerian brothers to pretend to beat you up and then courageously lying to the police about being attacked by white Donald Trump supporters because you’re gay and black? That takes incredible fortitude, as does keeping a straight face while claiming that they shouted “this is MAGA country” in downtown Chicago.

To then go on national TV and repeat the lie while suggesting that you got attacked because you’re such an important opponent of the president? If that’s not loyalty to the anti-Trump cause, I don’t know what is.

What I’m most proud of, though, is how Jussie empowered other black celebrities to make up hate crimes. Before his bravery broke the ice, no one could have known it was possible to face absolutely no consequences whatsoever after concocting such a “woke” hoax.

All you need to do is make sure you know someone with sufficient political influence, such as Michelle Obama’s former chief of staff, and that you carry out the hoax in a district where the head prosecutor is propped up by massive donations from George Soros. Then you can have your lawyers seriously claim you were a “victim” as the police compile a mountain of evidence showing you were the perpetrator. The Soros-backed state’s attorney’s assistants will even file for a gag order so that the evidence can’t be revealed to the public.

The facts won’t matter a lick if you adhere closely to Smollett’s approach, and that’s a powerful example to set.

The only disappointment, really, is that President Trump is still trying to take down Jussie Smollett, this important black leader, at a time when our community needs him most. Why would we need the FBI to investigate Jussie’s crimes? State’s Attorney Kim Foxx has already handled this.

Even Chicago’s Democrat mayor, Rahm Emanuel, who for some unfathomable reason is upset over what Jussie did, is now telling Trump to leave this brave hero alone.

I don’t understand why any Democrat would be critical of Smollett. Haven’t they learned anything from his example? He showed us that liberal privilege means you can get away with saying just about anything — that you were attacked by Trump supporters for being black and gay, for instance, or even that the president of the United States conspired with Russians to hack American democracy — without a shred of evidence.

Dedicated liberal bureaucrats will shield you from the consequences. A pliant press will even draw false equivalencies between a 22-month, $30 million investigation finding zero evidence of collusion and a biased prosecutor throwing out all the evidence that Chicago Police worked overtime to collect on a hate crime hoax.

Smollett heroically blazed a trail for perpetually-aggrieved liberals everywhere, demonstrating just how easy it is to claim the mantle of victimhood without having to actually become a victim of anything. If that doesn’t entitle him to a Nobel Peace Prize, the prize committee has fallen woefully behind the times.
