Anne Hathaway made headlines when she told Ellen that she was giving up alcohol this past January.

Hathaway clarified in Modern Luxury’s Boston Common magazine Wednesday that she didn’t think the alcohol was the problem, but the hangovers are what ultimately led her to stop drinking.

“I didn’t put [a drink] down because my drinking was a problem,” Hathaway explained. “I put it down because the way I drink leads me to have hangovers and those were the problem.”

Hathaway admits that the last time she drank her hangover lasted for five days straight.

“When I’m at a stage in my life where there is enough space for me to have a hangover, I’ll start drinking again, but that won’t be until my kid is out of the house,” she said. (RELATED: Anne Hathaway Thinks She’s Better At This One Thing As A Blonde)

“It’s just the way I do it — which I personally think is really fun and awesome — is just not the kind of fun and awesome that goes with having a child for me,” Hathaway said.

Hathaway pegged her decision to stop drinking after she had to take her son to school while hungover.

“He’s getting to an age where he really does need me all the times in the morning,” the actress said. “I did one school run where I dropped him off at school, I wasn’t driving, but I was hungover and that was enough for me, I didn’t love that one.”
