Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid threw a dirty shot during a Monday night playoff win against the Nets.

Embiid was forcing his way to the hoop when he elbowed Nets center Jarrett Allen in the face. It was far from a love tap.

The 76ers center tried to spin down, thew an elbow to Allen’s face and dropped his opponent immediately. You can watch a couple angles of the play below. (RELATED: Cavaliers Forward Marquese Chriss Dunks On Nets Center Jarrett Allen)

In case you were wondering if Embiid took the situation seriously, I don’t think he did. The talented young NBA player was chuckling with his teammate Ben Simmons after the game when attempting to apologize for it.

This is a perfect example of the differences between pro sports leagues. In the NBA, you can elbow a guy in the face and not really have to worry about much.

Sure, the refs might hit you with a technical foul, but nobody cares about that down the stretch. In the NHL, a dirty play can cause you to lose your teeth. People take this stuff much more seriously.

If you’re Allen, you might just have to get up and start swinging anyways. You can’t let yourself get elbowed like that and do nothing.

Don’t be surprised if a message is sent when these teams meet for game three Thursday night. I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised if Allen or one of his teammates delivers a cheap shot on Embiid.
