Florida football staffer Otis Yelverton might be in some serious hot water.

According to Rivals.com Tuesday, Yelverton, who is an assistant director of player personnel for the Gators, is facing a third-degree felony charge of aggravated stalking after allegedly harassing his ex-girlfriend.

Rivals.com reported the following details:

According to the ACSO police report, Yelverton has “repeatedly and maliciously” harassed the victim in the case after she ended the relationship on April 14th. The report goes on to detail that Yelverton called, Facebook messaged and texted the victim over 40 times – many of those messages coming after she told Yelverton to end all communication.

The report goes on to to say that the defendant was then arrested after he reportedly left a threatening voice message on April 21, after he told the victim that he would “blow up” her car.

Yikes. This isn’t a great look at all. Obviously, Yelverton is innocent until proven guilty. This is America, and that’s the beautiful standard we embrace in this country.

However, innocent or guilty, the Gators — who have placed Yelverton on leave — don’t want this investigation lingering over their heads as they head into summer workouts, and there are months of nonstop media coverage of the team leading into the 2019 season.

That doesn’t just go for Florida. That goes for any team in America.

Given the fact he’s already on leave, I’ll be shocked if he makes a return to the staff anytime soon. The school will try to distance itself as much as it can from this situation.

It’s a disaster waiting to happen for multiple reasons. Again, I’m not saying that as an indication of whether or not Yelverton is guilty or not.

The court system will do its thing, but that Florida doesn’t need to wait for the wheels to start spinning before making their own decisions.
