MSNBC’s Nicolle Wallace claimed Wednesday that it’s “not clear which side” the United States has taken in regard to Venezuela’s conflict.

Despite multiple statements from within the Trump administration declaring support for opposition leader Juan Guaido, Wallace claimed the American people “are disoriented.”

Referencing Tiananmen Square, Wallace pointed out the striking similarities playing out in Venezuela as the world watched, saying:

You see tanks driving near pedestrians and your heart grips … I think one of the conundrums, if you will, of the Trump presidency is because there’s been such a lack of clarity around foreign policy and key adversaries like Russia. When these crises come to pass, people are disoriented. It’s not clear which side we’re on. Not that the side we’re on is everything.

Even as Wallace spoke, claiming that it was “not clear which side” the United States was on, the chyron on the screen read in all caps, “VENEZUELA BRACES FOR MORE TURMOIL AS TRUMP ADMIN. SUPPORTS OPPOSITION.”

President Donald Trump has voiced support for Guaido and the Venezuelan people on a number of occasions. (RELATED: Trump Tweets Support For Venezuelan People Amid Uprising Against Maduro)

Vice President Mike Pence has also recognized Guaido as the legitimate leader of the Venezuelan people.

As has Secretary of State Mike Pompeo:

The fact that America sides with Guaido over Maduro is so well known globally that even Maduro has taken to blaming the U.S. for engineering nationwide blackouts in order to help propel Guaido into power.

Despite his opposition to Trump, former Vice President Joe Biden has also stated that he would back Guaido over current Venezuelan Dictator Nicolas Maduro. Independent Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders is one of the few American politicians who has refused to call Maduro a “dictator.”
