Maximum Security won the 145th annual Kentucky Derby on Saturday, but was then disqualified.

Maximum Security was disqualified with officials saying he interfered, which means that long-shot Country House won the race. It was the first time in the race’s history that a horse had been disqualified.

The Kentucky Derby, which takes place annually at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky, usually provides some excitement during what is a down time in the sports calendar. This year was certainly no exception. (RELATED: Sorority Cancels Kentucky Derby Party Because Theme Is Offensive)

Leading up to the race, Maximum Security held 8-1 odds to win the race and was widely considered one of the favorites to win. The race’s eventual winner, Country House, was a 65-1 underdog. The Derby is known for the sports betting it attracts, so as always it will be interesting to see who won or lost a lot of money.

As always, high-profile celebrities flocked to the Derby.

It looked like a fun day all around!

Unless of course, you had money on Maximum Security.
