Firefighters rescued two window washers dangling in a basket that was swinging 50 stories high in Oklahoma City Wednesday.

The two became stranded around 7:45 a.m. while working near the roof of the Devon Tower downtown when their basket, which was suspended by a crane 20-30 feet above the roof, was picked up by heavy winds and began swinging uncontrollably, The Associated Press reported.

“They were on a ride that no one would want to experience, to say the least,” Battalion Chief Benny Fulkerson with the Oklahoma City Fire Department said to ABC’s KOCO.

Oklahoma City Fire Capt. David Macy said the two workers were pulled to safety around 8:30 a.m. after rescuers secured the basket with ropes. Both were examined by paramedics and refused medical treatment. (RELATED: Man Survives Fall Into Most Active Volcano In Hawaii)

In the video, the basket can be seen crashing into the tower’s roof extensions, breaking windows and sending broken glass to the sidewalks underneath. Police closed off the area to traffic.

The building, Oklahoma City’s tallest, is the corporate headquarters of energy company Devon Energy Corporation.

“We’re thankful for the safety of everyone involved in this incident and rescue, and we’re particularly appreciative of the response by the Oklahoma City Police and Fire Departments,” Devon President and CEO Dave Hager said in a statement.

The cause of the accident was not immediately known. Macy said the incident is under investigation.
