The famous Eiffel Tower in Paris, France was shut down Monday after a man attempted to climb the monument.

One of the most recognizable and iconic landmarks in the world, the Eiffel Tower is roughly 324 meters tall, which is equivalent to 1,062 feet. It is not known how far the man made it up.  (RELATED: These Photos Show The Damage Done To The Notre Dame Cathedral)

As of Monday afternoon, tourists were still stuck on the tower’s top floors. This isn’t the first time in recent years that a man has attempted to scale the tower.

British daredevil James Kingston successfully climbed the tower, but was subsequently arrested.

The tower has had to undergo significant security enhancements in recent years, as Europe faces increased terror threats. Paris erected tall bulletproof walls around the monument last year.
