Taylor Swift revealed there are “political undertones” in her upcoming album.
The “Reputation” singer opened up about the kind of music her fans should expect on her seventh studio album during an interview with the German outlet RTL, published Friday.
“I definitely think there are political undertones in the new music I made,” Swift reportedly said. “I’m not planning to stop encouraging young people to vote and to try to get them to talk about what’s going on in our country. I think that’s one of the most important things I could do.”
Swift’s apparent start with political activism began during the 2018 midterm elections. She shared a post on her Instagram supporting Democratic Tennessee candidates and encouraged young people to register to vote. (RELATED: Taylor Swift Donates $113,000 To Tennessee LGBTQ Organization)
“In the past I’ve been reluctant to publicly voice my political opinions, but due to several events in my life and in the world in the past two years, I feel very differently about that now,” she shared at the time. “I always have and always will cast my vote based on which candidate will protect and fight for the human rights I believe we all deserve in this country.”
The singer’s political activism has also included donations. As previously reported, Swift recently made a $113,000 donation to the Tennessee Equality Project, a group focused on LGBTQ rights.
“I’m so inspired by the work you do, specifically in organizing the recent petition of Tennessee faith leaders standing up against the ‘slate of hate’ in our state legislature,” Swift wrote in a note with the donation.
