Arizona Cardinals quarterback Brett Hundley thinks he can compete with Kyler Murray for the starting job.

“My goal always has been to start. No matter where I am, no matter what position it’s in. I don’t play to be second. So, I think that’s my number one goal, to get that starting job. It’s a competition for a reason,” Hundley told TMZ in an interview posted Tuesday.

You can watch his full comments below:

I appreciate the competitive spirit from Hundley, but he’s not starting. The Cardinals have already made it clear Kyler Murray is the man in Arizona.

He was the first overall pick in the draft for a reason. He’s the perfect man for Kliff Kingsbury’s offense. He’s got a big arm, he’s fast and he can make plays with his feet.

They didn’t hire Kingsbury and draft the Oklahoma Heisman winner to then start Brett Hundley. Let’s all go back to reality.

Of course, the Cardinals want Hundley to stay fresh and ready to go. He’s the perfect kind of backup for Murray, and he should be ready to step in if needed.

However, if everything goes according to plan for the Cardinals, the former UCLA star own’t leave the bench this season. In a perfect world, Murray would remain healthy and light it up.

The Cardinals open up the 2019 NFL season week one against the Detroit Lions. While I expect my Lions to roll, it’s going to be a lot of fun to see what Murray does on the biggest stage in all of football.
