CRANBERRY, Pa. (AP) — A state trooper shot in northwestern Pennsylvania has died, and a search is on for the gunman.

Dozens of state police cruisers are in a heavily wooded area where the shooting happened Wednesday. Authorities confirmed the trooper had died, but didn’t immediately release the trooper’s name or provide details of what happened.

The shooting happened in a rural area near Oil City, about 80 miles north of Pittsburgh. Police have closed down roads in the area and locked down schools.

The coroner’s office says that it has been contacted about the shooting, but isn’t saying anything else.

State police have blocked off the rural road where the shooting happened, and dozens of police cars have rushed to the area.
