It is a salutary lesson that, be you ever so high, you might still be called for jury service to pass judgment on your peers – as Barack Obama has just discovered. All other things being equal, the president should this morning have been reporting for service at the Cook County circuit court in the southern Chicago suburb of Bridgeview, instead of preparing for the annual state of the union address on Wednesday.
But of course all things are not equal and so the world’s most powerful man has been given at least a deferment of duty.
