Obama has low-key meeting with Dalai Lama at White House

President Obama met the Dalai Lama on Thursday in a largely ceremonial affair that nonetheless has angered China but apparently delighted many Tibetans unhappy with their treatment by the regime in Beijing.

Obama hosted the saffron-robed Dalai Lama, who fled Tibet in 1959 after an abortive anti-Chinese uprising, in the Map Room of the White House.

With an eye to China, it was a low-key affair with the exiled leader. No joint public appearance or photo opportunity with reporters was planned.
